Over the past few days, I’ve been noticing wasps building a nest on one of the plants at home.
Each morning, it seems a little more complete. A few more cells. A bit more structure. Nothing dramatic. No sudden leaps. Just steady, deliberate work.
What struck me was how coordinated it all felt. No single wasp seemed to be “in charge.” And yet, there was no confusion. Each one appeared to know its role. When to build. Where to add. When to move aside. A quiet kind of teamwork, playing out without noise or display.
Watching it for a while, I found myself thinking about leadership. How easily we associate it with visibility… with being the loudest voice or the one making the final call. But a lot of leadership looks more like this. Shared effort. Clear purpose. Progress that doesn’t need constant attention to keep moving.
Strong systems are often built this way. Through trust. Through alignment. Through many small actions that add up over time.
By the time the structure is obvious to everyone else, the real work has already been happening for days.
