Foodking Sarathbabu – From Slums To Boardrooms

I met Foodking Sarathbabu last afternoon. And what a meeting it was!

Many of you would know his story… from growing up in the slums of Chennai to sitting in the boardrooms of India’s top organizations, his journey has been defined by grit, purpose, and an unshakable belief in inclusive growth. Along the way, he founded Foodking, a company that stands for both enterprise and social impact. Degrees from iconic institutions. Over a hundred awards. A life that’s been featured in school textbooks.

But what stood out to me wasn’t the resume.

It was the person… the human being.

Despite everything he has built and achieved, there was no air of self-importance. No sense of having “made it”. Just humility. Warmth. And a willingness to talk about failures as easily as successes.

We spoke about life. About leadership. About choices that don’t always make sense on paper but feel right in the gut. It was one of those conversations that leaves you thinking long after it ends.

I also had the opportunity to present him with a copy of my book, The Inner Game of Leadership. It felt fitting, given how much of what he has built reflects the idea that leadership begins from within.

Grateful to Sarathbabu for the time and the conversation.
