Diwali: What We Choose To Light Up

Today is Diwali… the festival of lights.

Homes will be lit with diyas, colourful rangolis will adorn doorways, sweets will be shared, and families will come together to celebrate.

Diwali is associated with the victory of light over darkness… and with good overcoming evil.

But the light of Diwali needn’t stop at our doorsteps… we can bring a little of it into the lives of others, too.

Think about the people around us… a few words of encouragement when someone is having a difficult day, taking the time to listen when someone needs to be heard, recognising someone’s effort, especially when they don’t expect it, or giving someone the confidence to try something they weren’t sure they could do.

These may seem like small things… but they can mean a lot to the person on the receiving end.

And as leaders, we have a part to play here, too. We may not always be able to solve every problem or make things easy for everyone. But we can choose how we show up… and how people feel around us.

This Diwali, as we light up our homes, let’s also think about the little things we can do to bring more warmth, kindness and positivity into the lives of those around us.

Wishing you and your family a very Happy Diwali!
